Timely Concession.

Dear Sir, —As one of the unfortunates who, through being physically incapacitated and compelled to eke out an existence on a pittance of 13s 6d a week, may I be allowed to express the appreciation of the Tramway Board’s little gift to the workers of the 3d concession ride. To the average onlooker, and to many of the board’s opponents, this may seem a trivial thing, and perhaps, from their critics’ point of view, a foolish procedure; but it is a practical instance of what a properly constituted La-bour-controlled body can do. To us at Bottle Lake it means a big thing that elderly men and men minus a leg can get transport from door to door instead of walking home, if only to the Square, and save lOd a week. This will help to pay the levy which these so-called leaders of the country demand from those who could not possibly compete in a labour market even if our capable Government could absorb the fit unemployed. It does not come up to our idea of a Utopia, where transport would and should be provided.—l ain, etc., A CRIPPLED DIGGER.
