Air Mail Profits.

Some idea of the profits made through the air mail between New' Zealand and Australia w r as given by the Chief Postmaster at Auckland, Mr S. M. Harrison, to the council of the Automobile Association recently. Mr Harrison said that a charge of 7d was made for each half-ounce letter sent by air mail from New Zealand to Australia. Of the total, the individual or concern ow’ning the aeroplane received sd, the balance of 2d going to the New Zealand Government, half as ordinary postage fee and the other half as air mail fee to cover the extra handling required. He understood that a similar allocation w'as made in the case of a flight from Australia to New Zealand.
