ROME, April 8 “ Too much bad news comes to me each day regarding the difficulties of German Catholics,” said the Pope today, when he gave an audience to 300 German Catholic youths. . He emphasised the deep anxiety with which he was watching events in Germany, but added that he had not- lost hope of a better future and would do everything possible to support their defence of the Catholic Church The Pope also praised the priests for fighting not only against false Christianity but “ real paganism.” The “ Osservatore Romano,” the semi-official Vatican organ, in discuss ing the situation, points cut that the Vatican, in the concordat with Ge: many, did not agree to the dissolution of the Catholic Centre Party, which was not discussed. The concordat laid it down onlv that priests must not be members of political parties. Also, there was nothing to prevent Catholic laymen from again forming a political party.
