WOMEN’S DIVISION.

The fifth annual general meeting of the Amuri branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Rotherham Hall on Friday afternoon. Mrs M. Betliell presided over a large attendance. The balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £22 3s 4d, was adopted. Mrs Bethell gave a review of the activities of the branch for the past year. A letter of thanks \vas received from Nurse Maude for gifts forwarded during last year. It was resolved that a letter of thanks be forwarded to Mr Mockett for transporting the goods for Nurse Maude free of charge. A letter was received from the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, asking for support. It was resolved to arrange an afternoon at a later date, and to invite the institute to send goods and craftwork for sale. A grant of £lO was made to the headquarters community chest fund. A member reported that the Flock House New Zealand-trained boy who had originally been given temporary employment had proved so satisfactory that he had been engaged permanently. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs M. Bethell; vice-presidents, Mescfames Hartnell, Dampier-Crossley and Godfrey Rutherford; secretary, Miss Murgatroyd; treasurer. Miss M. Hiatt; advisory members, Mesdames Manson and F. C. Robinson; General Committee—Culverden, Mesdames W. B. M’Millan, H. R. Davison and F. Davison; Rotherham. Mesdames Jameson, Palmer Popplewell;, Waiau, Mesdames White and Pettigrew and Miss M. Anderson; Hanmer Springs, Mesdames Hanmer-Atkinson and G. D. Rutherford; delegates to the Wellington conference, Mrs Bethell and Miss Murgatroyd. A vote of thanks was passed to Airs Bethell and Miss Murgatrayd. After afternoon tea had been dispense, a bring and buy, in aid of the community chest funds was held?. There was an excellent assortment of goods on sale, and brisk business was done, resulting in satisfactory returns. A competition for a dressed turkey was won by Miss M. Anderson. Motukarara Branch. The fourth annual meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union (Motukarara Branch) was hold in the , hall recently. Mrs H. Nutt presided over a large attendance of members. The secretary read the annual report and balance-sheet, which were received and adopted. The report showed that the branch had made most satisfactory progress, with an increase ot new members. During the year the branch held various demonstratlous and lectures, which proved both interesting and beneficial. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all those who so ably helped to make the year’s work such a success. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs Leonard Coop; vice-presidents, Miss M. Anderson and Mrs G. Templeton; honorary secretary, Miss E. Thompson; treasurer, Mrs T. Streeter; committee, Mesdames F. Coop, H. Nutt, T. Simmons, H. Wagner, A. Anderson, W. Witte, J. Miller, Misses Gebbie, W. Withell; auditor, Mr F. Bowley; in charge of competition, Mrs H. Wagner; delegates to the Housekeeper and Bush Nurse Auxiliary, Mesdames L. Coop and F. Streeter; delegates to the provincial executive, Mesdames L. Coop, H. Nutt and Miss E. Thompson. Mrs H. G. Blyth, Chatham Islands, was made an honorary member. A competition for three varieties of scones was won by Miss M. Anderson 1 and Mrs Alex Anderson and Miss Adams (equal) 2. Flowers competition: Mrs F. Coop 1 Mrs V. Robinson 2. The afternoon tea was served by the Gebbie’s ValleyTeddington ladies.
