Good Templars’ Lodge Meets. The weekly meeting of the Sumner Pride Lodge of juvenile Good Templars, was held in the Parish Hall, Sister M. Hurrell, Chief Templar, presiding. Brother 11. S. Ford, superintendent of, junior works,, thanked the members for their attendance and Brother L. Clark for taking charge whilst he was at the conference at Wellington. Brother Ford brought greetings from Excelsior, Trinity, Star of Melrose and Star of Wellington Temples and Lodges •of Wellington. He gave a brief report of his trip and the entertainment they enjoyed and stated that the representatives’ report would be given at next week's meeting at which the parents would lie present. As the Everonward Temple’s team did not arrive to play off the match of indoor games, arrangements were made for the lodge to play Sydenham next Thursday at 7 p.m. It was reported that Brother W. Sexton was in Dunedin and that some of the members were on the sick list. It was left for the S.J.W. to inquire into three cases. Y.M.C.A, Evening. The evening service at St Paul's Methodist Church last Sunday was conducted bv the resident members of the Young Men’s Christian Association of Christchurch. About twenty arrived from the city. They provided the organist and the choir, read the lessons, offered up the prayers and preached the sermon. The church was packed. It was the first occasion on which the service had been so organised and proved a great success. After the service, the school room was occupied by the visitors and members of the congregation and a successful song service was conducted by the young men before they left for the city. Last year, this type of service was held at the Presbyterian Church in Hardwicke Street. Presentation of a Trophy. A pleasant function was held this week at the secondary department of the Sumner District Hijjh School, where the Old Scholars’ silver cup to be held by the boy athletic champion was formally presented to the pupils. The head master, Mr H. M. Stevens accompanied the past secretary of the Old Scholars' Association, Mr 11. J. Bailey, and introduced him to the pupils. Mr Bailey apologised for the absence of the chairman, Mr W. J. Heslop, and said that the association had considered the matter of presenting a trophy and had decided that as some had already been presented for the girls, they would give the silver cup for the champion It was an athletic cup, but it carried with it the obligation of the winner to be able to swim. The cup was accepted on behalf of the pupils by the senior monitor. Felix Malley, and given into the keeping of the present senior champion, Rex D. Allen. JForensic Club. „ The annual meeting of the Sumner I* orensic Club will take place next week. The club has been in existence for well oyer a quarter of a century. Amongst its earliest supporters were Messrs J. E. Stevens and J. M. B. Crawford, of the School for the Deaf" and Messrs 11. E. Murlev, Huntlev Elliott, P. R. Jones, F. G. Wood, C. I. Denham, P. Gill, S. Wiggins, L. A Stringer, C. S. Gill, H. J. Marriner, G F. Allen. F. Brooker, W. C. 11. Wigley, F. Hibel, F. Brooker. J. Morrison, J. D. Watson, J. M’Phee and Dr Washbourne. Amongst its most enthusiastic members were the late Hon J. Barr, M.L.C., Dr Fife Slater, now of Perth. Western Australia, and the late Mr J. B. Laurenson. Amongst the most active members during recent years has been Mr F. 11. R Neville, who some weeks ago left the borough, after many years’ residence in Nay land Street, for the city of Dunedin. The club proposes to make him a life member. The present secretary is Mr D. A. M’Casltey, of Augusta Street, Redcliffs.
