DRAMA LEAGUE.

Arrangements Made for Festival. A comprehensive programme for the coming season has been drawn up by the New-Zealand branch of the British Drama League. The major event for Christchurch and North Canterbury ;will be the area, festival on September 21 and 22. The S.puth Canterbury festival is scheduled to commence at Timaru on September 12 and finish the following day. The final national festival will also be held at Timaru on October 5, with Miss B. Thomson and Messrs L. du Chateau and Bernard Beeby as adjudicators. The object of the league is to encourage the art of the theatre, both for its, owji sake and as a means of intelligent recreation for the whole community. The formation of groups for the practice and study of .drama, the provision of a library from which plays may be hired, encouragement of the writing of plays and to promote schools of drama are among the league’s objects. For the festivals, marks are awarded for acting, production, stage presentation and dramatic endeavour. Mrs Spence-Clark, of Sumner, is in charge of the Christchurch and North Canterbury area headquarters.
