OUR NEW SERIAL.

Starlets are Asked to Commence. In response, to loud and insistent clamourings for another serial, I have decided to name the characters and let.you choose the setting. The story must be purely New Zealand in setting and action, and must be written to please small people. 2s 6d will be awarded weekly for the best attempt. It is to be written as a story for the children under nine, and Aunt Hilda will name the characters and the setting. Send in your entries by Wednesday and 2s 6d will be awarded each week for the best. Here are the characters, and keep your story fresh, dainty and imaginative:— Honi, a Maori boy, and Miria, his sister; Patricia and Percy, a New Zealand girl and boy; Bright Eyes, a fantail whose home is the bush near where the children live; Katipo, the bad spider, who bears the poison label of red upon his back; Rimu and Matipo, fairies who live in the trees of that name; Rata Pixies arid Fern Elves; Frost Fairies and Squeeko, the happy sprite. There are to be no grown-ups in this' story whatever, and new characters may be added'as needed. All these given need not be included at first. Set your story anywhere you like and let your imagination run fresh and fast. By Wednesday, please, Starlets; Coast entries only Thursday morning.

THE “T ” COMPETITION. Many entries were received from this evergreen favourite, and the winner was finally found to be CELIA ELLIOTT, I lurunui, who found the twenty-five correct answers and neatly tabulated them. Celia is always a hard worker in the Circle, and we are happy to see her win. The prize will be posted on Monday. Thank you to all the triers. TWO DILIGENCE CERTIFICATES. Dorothy Stanton (Addington) and Brenda Payne (Woolston) have now ; earned their diligence certificates. Ex--1 cellent work. Where are more triers?

A STARLET’S PASSING. Another Starlet has passed on during the week, Gracie Heatley, of Addington and Aunt Hilda records the sympathy cf the Circle towards Grace’s parents and family. She will be remembered as the writer of a letter of thanks in Esperanto published in our Saturday page recently. We think of her with affectionate remembrance, and in being called to higher service so young, we would not be sad, but glad that promotion came quickly. She was buried on Tuesday and accord ed a very beautiful children’s service. SYMPATHY. •Why is sympathy like Blind Man’s Buff?—Because it is a fellow feeling for a fellow creature.
