DIAMOND JUBILEE.

Details of Celebrations Arranged. Arrangements for the diamond jubilee celebrations at the West Christchurch School, to be held from Mav 25 to 28, were discussed at a largely-attended meeting: of ex-pupils last evening. The chairman of the Jubilee Committee (Mr C. D. Sheppard) presided. The head master, Mr L. F. de Berry, as convener of the Fancy Dress Committee, reported on the work of the committee. As far as he could calculate over 50.000 persons had been through the school. The children’s partv was to be held on the evening of Friday, May 25, and the Caledonian Hall had been engaged for the occasion. The staff of the school had the programme in hand, but had not yet completed its arrangements. Four sub-committees w'ere at work arranging details. Jubilee Re-TJnion. Mr T. Orton §aid it was proposed to hold the jubilee gathering on the Saturday afternoon in the school grounds, beginning at 2 o’clock with a reception and an address of welcome. The Minister of Education, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance had been invited, and it was hoped that Mr Forbes would be aide to be present. The honour of ringing the school bell had been given to Mrs Beattie. ar.d the roll would be called in decades. The old boys of the school wanted to pay respect and reverence to the late Mr T. S. Foster, who served the school for many years, by erecting a memorial to him. The afternoon function w'ould be hs informal as possible and the Woolston Band w'ould be in attendance. In the evening a banquet and re-union would be held in the pavilion at. the Addington Trotting Ground, beginning at six o’clock. Service at the Cathedral. The chairman said that application had been made for permission to hold ♦he Sunday* afternoon service in the Christchurch Cathedral. On behalf of the Ball Committee, Mr E. K. Phillips said that the arrangements for holding the ball at the Trotting Ground were only tentative, but there was every prospect of it being a great success. Mr A. Gray, convener of the Records Committee, said that upwards of 2000 names of ex-pupils had already been obtained, but the work of the committee was only just beginning. He made an appeal for further lists of names of ex-pupils. Mr de Berry, on behalf of the Magazine and Publicity Committee, reported that New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd., had been appointed offici&l photographers. and Messrs Andrew. Baty, Ltd., had agreed to supply 2000 copies of the jubilee booklet free of charge. An old pupil stated that Mr .7. R. Wilkinson, one of the first pupils of the school, had suggested to him that a tablet in memory of the Rev .Tames Cummin?, the first head master, should he nrovided at the school. The chairman said that the suggestion would be given consideration by the executive.
