MUSICAL COMEDY.

Bebe Daniels Sings in “A

Southern Maid.”

The Guardsman ” will conclude its season at the Piaza Theatre to-morrow night.

“ A Southern Maid,” British International Pictures’ latest production, which will be the featured attraction on the new programme at the Plaza Theatre on Saturday, is without doubt one of the brightest and most spectacular films to come from a British studio in recent months. It is an elaborate screen version of the famous musical comedy romance of sunny Spain, and is enacted by a fine cast, headed by B s be „ Daniels ’ the popular star of “ Rio Rita and other musical successes This star s glorious voice is again heard to advantage in “ A Southern Maid,” which is said to be a worthy successor to “ The Maid of the Mountains.” Bebe Daniels plays two parts, that of the ravishing Juanita, a demure maiden of twenty years ago. who elopes with an Englishman, and also that of a typically modern girl, who falls in love with the Englishman’s son. Clifford Mollison plays both leading male parts. Lupino Lane supplies the comedy in his role of mayor, bandmaster, town crier and secretary of San Giorgia. The supporting programme will include “ Society Cheaters,” the third of the Ely Culbertson bridge “ shorts,” which are proving so popular with Plaza audiences. In this film a host accuses a young couple of cheating. Culbertson, before an informal jury consisting of all the guests at the original game, has it replayed with his explanation of its psychological issues, thereby proving that the accused pair’s suspicious plays were all natural and fair. Box plans at the D.I.C.
