Presentation to School Chairman. Members of the West Lyttelton School Committee met on Tuesday evening at the school and the secretary, Mr George Burnip. on behalf of the committeemen, presented the chairman (Mr E. Weastell) with a tobacco j as a token of their appreciation of his work, during the time he rad ..i j chairman of the school committee Mr Burnip expressed the regret of members that Mr Weastell was not offering himself for re-election, for under Mr Weastell they had worked amicably and the committee believed that the school had benefited as a result. Mr Weastell was elected chairman in 1927 after having served for twelve months as a committeeman. All wished him success and many years of good health. Messrs A. Stanley, J. Stanley, G. Voyce and the head master (Mr H. Gabites) also spoke. In responding Mr Weastell said that his work as chairman of the school committee had been made pleasant by the enthusiasm shown by the rest of the members of the committee. He expressed appreciation of the assistance extended to him by the head master, Mr Gabites and members of the teaching staff and wished the school every success in the future. Oddfellows’ Lodge. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal City of Norwich Lodge, M.UJ.0.0.F., Lyttelton, was held on Tuesday evening when N.G. Bro W. Smith presided. Sick pay amounting to £53 8s 4d was passed for payment. One candidate was initiated. It was resolved to accept the invitation from the Salvation Army to attend a church parade on the afternoon of Sunday, April 29, in celebration of the jubilee of the Army in Lyttelton. Golf Matches Postponed. As a mark of respect to the president of the Lyttelton Golf Club (Mr R. Orton Bradley), who suffered, bereavement in the death of his sister, Mrs K. B. Anderson, at Christchurch yesterday morning, the club has postponed the week-end matches. Diamond Harbour Golf Club. ‘ The Diamond Harbour Golf Club will hold a men’s and women’s birthday handicap match on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday a Canadian foursome will be played. Association Football. At the weekly meeting of the Lyttelton Association Football Club the following team was selected to play Thistle at Spreydon Domain; —A. Gordon, J. Baines, B. Jeffery. A. Prescott, B. Mealow, D. M’Leod, J. Souter. D.
Souter, T. Gorry. D. Smith and W. Ross. It was decided to play in black shorts this season. The winner of the recent competition held in connection with the club was Mr S. Wells (1271), the second prize going to Mrs Markham (1506).
