Three So-.planes rescued a further sixty-two members of the Cheliuskin party, including Captain Schmidt. Twenty-eight still remain on the icefield. / The Cheluiskin, a Soviet ice-breaker, was “ nipped ’’ in the ice and sank, leaving 103 castaways on the ice. For many weeks they have endured great j hardships, whils. bad weather and the Arctic night held up attempts at j rescue Recently the women and chil- j dren were rescued.
