SAFETY ON THE ROADS.
Dangerous Walking to be Punished. British Official Wireless. RUGBY, April 7. A system of safety zones for pedestrians as a means of preventing street accidents is to be tested in London. Plans for the institution of special crossings in the most congested areas of the West End have been issued by the Transport Minister, the Hon Oliver Stanley. Under the Road Traffic Bill which will be debated in the House of Commons on Tuesday, the Minister is taking powers to require the institution of special crossings in the country generally, and to make regulations providing for the imposition of penalties on pedestrians who walk dangerously. The plans put forward are experimental, and the local ‘ authorities of London have been invited to collaborate with the Minister in testin - them.
