TERRIFIC SHOCK.

Man Survives Force of 5700 Volts. (Special to the ■* Stir.”) WANGANUI, April 10. A sensational accident occurred at the power station of the Taranaki Power Board at Normanby, near Hawera, when Mr R. V. Jackson, an elderly employee of the board, received a terrible shock, caused through coming into contact with a 5700-volt line. It was a miracle that he was not killed outright. Air Jackson, sen., who was in charge of the power station, was removing one of the panels from the main switchboard, which was to be dismantled and rearranged, and was leaning over to clear something l>ehind tiie board, when his head came in contact with three unprotected wires. The terrific shock rendered him uneouseious immediately. Ou examination by two doctors, who were hurried to the scene, it was found that he had been severely burned on the crown of the head, on one hand, and one foot. He also suffered injury to a shoulder when the force of the shock threw him against a beam. The foot burned was standing on a sheet of iron, while one hand was on the board. Air. Jackson, was removed to his home nearby, and remained unconscious for home hours. His condition is satisfactory at present, but the reaction may prove to he more serious than the first effects of tile accident indicated.
