TASMAN RACE.
If Money Available It Will be Held. MR CLIMIE’S OPINION. Though manv aero clubs do not agree on the merits of the proposal to hold an air race from Melbourne to Christchurch immediately after the London to Melbourne race, this does not necessarily mean that the suggested air race across the Tasman will be abandoned. That is the opinion of Mr P. R. Climie, secretary of the Canterbury Aero Club, and former secretary of the New Zealand Aero Club. He stated to-day that if money for prizes could be found the transTasman air race would be held. Mr Climie was among those who suggested that a race for a £SOOO prize should be organised, as it was thought that such a prize would encourage aviators of world renown to fly to New Zealand after completing the London to Melbourne route. ‘‘The presence of the latest' and fastest machines, and the most famous and able pilots in the world, would promote aidmindedness in New Zealand, and focus the attention of the world on this Dominion,” said Mr Climie.
