MEMORY NOT A MUSCLE.
“ A man’s memory cannot be improved by sheer exercise,” stated Dr Cyril Burt. Professor of Psychology at London University, in a lecture. “ Memory is not a muscle that can be enlarged by daily exercise. The old notion that you should keep a child doing mental gymnastics day by day is entirely erroneous, according to modern theories. Experiments and test by ingenious devices show that memory, as such, never does improve.” He added that people could be trained, however, to make better use of what material they possessed.
