Croquet Club Concludes Season. (Special to the “Star.”) ASHBURTON, April 8. The weather was fine for the closing of the Waireka Croquet Club’s season on Saturday. Senior and junior progressive tournaments were played. Miss k. E. Hardwick winning the senior tournament, with Mrs E. de G. Robilliard runner-up. Mrs G. Arthur was successful in the junior grade, Mrs M. Macmillan being runner-up. Mrs H. Samuels (senior) and Mrs J. Smith (junior) won consolation prizes. The junior players entertained the seniors at lunch and afternoon tea. In declaring the season closed, the. president (Mrs J. M. Wilkie) thanked them for their hospitality. Oddfellows' Lodge. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Ashburton Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., P.G. Brother T. F Smith presided in the absence of the NG. (Brother A. A. Craighead). Sick pay amounting to £l9 8s 4d was passed in favour of seventeen members. Two new members were elected? two initiated and two proposals for membership were received. As the date originally fixed clashes with the householders’ meetings, the special visit to the Rakaia Lodge has been postponed to April 30. Sunlight League. With the membership of the reorganised Ashburton branch of the Sunlight League over the 100 mark, a large and representative annual meeting of town and country members, as well as others interested in this health movement. is expected in the St Stephen’s Hall on Tuesday, April 10. Mrs Cracroft Wilson, of Christchurch, a member of the Council of the Sunlight League of Key Zealand, will address the meeting on the aims and objects of the league, and Mrs Kenneth Macdonald, a member of the committee of the Sunlight League of New Zealand, will give a talk on the A 1 dental scheme. Elderly Woman Injured. As the result of a fall, Mrs M. Baker, aged seventy-six years, of Rakaia, was admitted to the Ashburton County Hospital this afternoon with a fracture of the left wrist. Her condition is reported to be satisfactory.
