SAXOPHONE BAND.
Tom Katz Comes to Theatre Royal, Saturday. Tom Katz and his famous saxophone band will appear on the stage at the Theatre Royal next Saturday. This great combination, which is on its way to fulfil a long-term contract at the Palladium, London’s largest music-hall, recentlv proved extremely popular in Australia. A critic writes: “Tom Katz and his saxophone band held the complete attention of a full house at the Globe Theatre last evening. More than that, the band commanded rapturous applause at the conclusion of each item and was several times recalled. There are half-a-dozen performers, and they are all artists. The instruments are all saxophones of every kev and size, but in the hands of the little negro boys they excite the emotions of the audience to a pitch of enthusiasm. The old popular tunes come forth with new and amazing vitality Sometimes they are low and sweet; sometimes sad and sombre; sometimes radiant and happy, and at all times pleasurably welcome. They stir the emotions according to the nature of their moods and fancies. These master musicians syncopate their way through a programme surprising in its novelty and originality'. Ending their first turn on a note of jubilation, they were vociferously recalled and had to respond to a second appreciation before the audience had had enough.”
