Dirty Bank Notes.
Dear Sir, —The bright new coinage Is very pleasant to handle, and it makes one notied by contrast the dirty bank notes in circvf lation. Most of the notes are disgustingly 1 , filthy to touch, so much so that I wonder the medical authorities do not draw th? banks’ attention to their state. Why can’t we have more frequent issues of bank notes? No one knows how a dirty note may spread disease, because no one has any method of checking it, but there was a recent paragraph in your paper which showed the amazing rapidity with which a single shilling circulated, and paper money passes through as many hands almost as quickly. Yesterday I received five pounds in single notes and all of them were too disgustingly dirty to touch without washing one’s hands immediately afterwards.—l am, etc., KEEP CLEAN.
