RADIO IN SCHOOLS.
Lessons to Begin Next Week. Broadcast lessons to Canterbury and j(Vest Coast schools will be resumed on Wednesday next from 3YA, and will continue each Wednesday during the school term. The broadcasts will begin at 1.50 p.m. for the first month, and talks will be given by Professor Shelley, of Canterbury College, Mr A. J. Campbell, formerly a lecturer at the Teachers’ Training College and now on the staff of Canterbury College, and Miss D. Baster, infant mistress at ' the Normal School. Miss Baster will broadcast to the first and second standards, Mr Campbell to the third and fourth standards, and Professor Shelley to the first and second forms. The revival of school broadcast lessons has been due largely to the enthusiasm of Professor Shelley, who undertook the responsibility of controlling the service when the Training College closed down. Miss Baster will talk on nursery rhymes and where they come from, selections being made from a list which is being circulated to teachers, who are being urged to help the children to memorise the rhymes and sing them to their traditional tunes. Mr Campbell will speak on world developments through the ages, his talks for the first month being “ The Influence of Invasions,” " The Influence of Disease,” “ The Influence of Inventions ” and “ The Influence of Good Citizens.” Though his lessons are designed primarily for the pupils of the third and fourth standards they are also considered suitable for the first and second forms. Professor Shelley will give lessons on “ Man as a Wanderer,” 44 Art and Magic,” 44 Man the Tool-maker,” and “ The Making of a City,” the series being incorporated under the title 44 The Beginning of Things.”
