PRIZES PRESENTED.

Relief Workers’ Gardens Competitions. Prizes won during 1 the recent relief workers’ vegetable growing competition conducted by the Garden Allotments' Committee of the Christchurch City Council wer e presented by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.), at the City Council Chambers this morning. Mr M. J. Barnett presided. The Mayor said that he was sorry he had not been able to see all the gardens. However, he was intensely interested in every phase of the relief workers’ activities. He congratulated the prize-winners and also the other competitors for the good work that had been done. Messrs H. L/. Darton and W. W. Scarff replied. The first and second judgings were carried out by supervisors of the districts, and the final judging by Messrs M. J. Barnett, J. T. Sinclair and E. Taylor. The committee awarded a special prize to .Mr C. A. Fisher, of Page’s Road, as the judges were particularly impressed with the thorough and painstaking manner in which he had cleared and cultivated a twitch-infested section at Lindsay S-treet. The committee was Indebted to the Mayor, Mr L. B. Hart, the N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op. Association, Ltd., and Messrs Sutton’s, Ltd., for donations towards the 'competition. It had also been decided to award certificates in addition to cash prizes so that prize-winners might have something tangible to show for their effort. The following were the awards:— City-Sydenham-Addington—W. Hogwood, 93, Kilmore Street, 82 points. 1; G. Taylor, 170, Wordsworth Street, 80 points. 2. Spreydon - Beckenham - St MartinsOpawa.—C. C. Smith, 96, Malcolm Avenue, 85 points, 1; A. T. Eaton, 44, Austin Street, 83 points, 2. Riccarton-Fendalton.—W. J. M’Loughlin, 29, Taylor’s Road, 80 points, 1; W. Stone, 31, Rotherham Street, 78 points, St Albans-Papanui.—C. E. Shaw, 86, Flockton Street, 81 points, 1; W. J. Jones, 51, Rayburn Avenue, 74 points, 2. Woolston - Linwood - AvonsideNorth Richmond.—W. Marsden, 28, Chelsea Street, 84 points, 1; F. W. Priest, 58, Patten Street, 75 points, 2. Bromley-Aranui-Burwood-New Brigh-ton.—-J. J. Tudhope, 31, Fannell Avenue, 76 points, 1.
