BRONZE AGE FAKES.
LONDON, February 10. Treasures of great value, including two bronze spear-heads and six bronze socketed axes, have vanished from the world-famous museum of the Wiltshire Archaeological Society in Long Street, Devizes. And in their cases in the Antiquity Room, worthless articles of similar appearance have been placed by the thief. “ We might still have been unaware of our loss,” said Captain B. H. Cunningham, honorary curator of the museum, 44 had not my wife noticed something peculiar about the lock on one of the cases in the Antiquity Room, which led us to investigate. 44 The stolen implements were the gems of a Bronze Age collection which has been in the museum for eighty years. They would fetch a high price from collectors, especially in America.” Three cases in the Antiquity Room had been forced, apparently with a large chisel.
