NOTES FROM NELSON.

(Special to the ” Star.”) NELSON, April 5. The fire which destroyed the Rai Valley Co-operative Dairy Company. Ltd.’s factory last night was watched by a large crowd of residents, but nothing could be done to save the plant, building or stock, which was reduced to a smouldering mass. The factory was a wooden building erected in 1909, and was run on co-operative lines, all the farmers in the district being shareholders. It was situated in the heart of a thriving dairying district and was handling 10,0001 bof milk daily. The insurances were as follows: —Buildings £2400, plant £2600, on cheese for local consumption £2OO, cheese stocks for export £SOO. Xotary Club. The weekly luncheon of the Nelson Rotary Club was held to-day, presided over by the president (Mr J. P. S. Jamieson). Before the address the president referred to the good work done by Mr G. Page as chairman of the Unemployment Committee, and said that members regretted his resignation from that position. Captain C. V. Sugden was the speaker, his subject being “ Warziristan.” Mr W. B. Griffin moved a vote of thanks to the speaker for what had proved a most interesting talk. a

Ministers’ Fraternal. There was a full attendance at the annual meeting of the Nelson Ministers’ Fraternal held last evening. The outgoing president (the Rev D. Haultain; was in the chair. Pleasure was exSresse<? at the Dean of Nelson (the Very :ev P. B. Haggitt) and the Rev H. 6. Plumb linking up with the Fraternal. Expressions of appreciation of the good work of the Rev J. C. Mackay as secretary were made by the president and received with warm applause. He was unanimously asked to carry on. The Rev J. Hay was elected president for the coming term and Dean Haggitt vicepresident. Social Evening. On Easter Monday a most enjoyableinformal dance was given for the visiting golfers and tennis players in the “ Studio.” Many of the guests from the M’Niven-Hogg wedcfing joined the party. The second annual citizens’ ball held in the Institute Hall, Motueka, was a marked success both socially and financially. Mr K. J. Holyoake, M.P., and Major D. W. Talbot acted as M.C.’s. Members of the Citizens’ Ball Committee were: The Mayor (Mr R. J. L. York), Messrs G. Manifold and L. Gromstone, Mesdames York, Manifold?, Sparrow, Mabey, Grimstone, Sinclair and Miss V. York. Wedding. A pretty wedding of interest was solemnised at the bridegroom’s home at Inangahua Landing, when Daphne Evelyn, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Andrew Perry, of Black Point, was married to Ronald Leopold, elcJest soil of Mr and Mrs Walter Wright, of Inangahua Landing. The Rev Mr Evans officiated and Mrs Faulkner presided at the organ. The bridesmaid was Miss Mavis Perry, sister of the bride. Mr Keith Wright, the bridegroom’s twin brother, acted as best man.
