THE WEEK’S WORK.
THE FLOWER GARDEN. Sow Mignonette, Sweet Alyssum, Night-scented Stock. Transplant Beauty and Ten-week Stocks. Iceland Poppies can be planted out when ground is ready. Plant English, Spanish and Dutch Iris. Lift Liliums when finished flowering. Chrysanthemums need disbudding, tying and feeding with liquid manure. Dust with sulphur and arsenate of lead if caterpillars appear. Kernova spent blooms of Dahlias and other herbaceous plants. nn '**‘* nave finished flowering should be pulled up and replaced by spring-flowering plantsPlant Anemones* Ranunculus, Tulips, Hyacinths and Narcissus. Renovate and topdress lawns. Make and sow new lawns. THE VEGETABLE GARDEN. Sow early Cabbage and Cauliflowers. Plantings of earlier sown can be made. Cos Lettuce, Shorthorn Carrots and Turnip-rooted Beet. Make a sowing of Prickly Spinach. Sow Onions for transplanting in spring. Those sown earlier must be weeded. , Celery should be earthed up as yequired. Occasionally pull up a little soil to the Leeks. Potatoes and Onions should be lifted and stored. Dig over vacant plots. If any plots are not required for some time sow down in Mustard or Oats. Trench ground for next season’s root crops. THE GREENHOUSE. Fumigate the house every fortnight or so. Perpetual-flowering Carnations should be in their flowering pots. Make a sowing of Mignonette, Primula malacoides and Sehisanthus. Cinerarias* Primula sinensis and Cyclamen should be kept growing. Ventilate freely, shade well and do not allow soil to dry. \ THE FRUIT GARDEN. Useless fruit trees should be cut out or marked for removal later. Cuttings of Gooseberries and Currants put in now will root readily. Cut out old fruited canes of Loganberries and Raspberries. Thin out the centre of Peach, Nectarine and Plum trees.
