NIGHT-SCENTED STOCK.

LISTED AS MATTHIOLA BICORNIS. A patch of this delightfully fragrant annual should be sown wherever fragrance is appreciated. It is most fragrant during evening; in fact., during day the flowers are partly closed and the scent is noticeable only under close observation, but of an evening, it can be noticed at a great distance; in fact, there is probably no stronger, sweetscented evening flower. A little seed broadcasted in the border by the front door or under the window will soon bring forth the inquiry, “What is it that smell* so sweet?” The plant is about a foot in height, will grow in any soil, needs a well-drained position in full sun, and is allied to the ten week stoek. Seed is cheap, and a pinch sown occasionally will be always in season.
