G. W. Hockley Wins Middleweight Championship.

The Pioneer Club's championship beach race meeting was held at North Beach to-day. The course was wet. but improved as the racing progressed. The principal event, the Middle-weight Championship, for machines of 500 c.c. capacity, was won by G. W. Hockley in fast time. The fastest man over the flying .halfmile was L. Harrington. The following were the results: — SIX-MILE HANDICAP. Open. L. E. Evans (250 c.c. O.K. Supreme). 65sec - 1 E. H. Buckley (350 c.c. H.D.), 54sec 2 V. Ettwell (500 c.c. Ariel), 42sec .. 3 Evans took the lead early in the race and won easily. Buckley beat Ettwell by five lengths. Times—7min 52 l-ssec, 7min 42 3-ssec, 7min 31 3-ssec. MIDDLE-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. At the end of fmr miles he was still leading from Smith, with Ettwell third and Evans, iclose, fourth. At eight miles the order was unchanged, although several riders had retired. At .twelve miles Hockley was still in front of Smith, but Evans was now in third place. Ettwell retired. The winner led over the finishing line about a quarter of a mile in front of Smith, with Evans a long way back third.
