Empire Sports Arena.
The foundation stone of the Empire Pool and Sports Arena, now in course of erection, at Wembley, was laid by Lord Derby on February 15. The Pool, which is to be the biggest covered sports arena in England, Is to be ready for the aquatic, boxing and wrestling events at the British Empire Games at the beginning of August. It has bren decided since the plans were first drawn up to include several new features, among the most interesting of which will be a sliding roof—the first of its kind in England. The Empire Pool, together with the Wembley Stadium, which is controlled by the same company, will form the most comprehensive sports centre in the British Empire. Cocktail and buffet bars are to be a permanent feature, and the terraces will be used as restaurants and ballrooms.
