It was snowing when his party left in the morning, was warm and sunny when they passed through Hanmer, while a hot scorching nor’-west was encountered later in the day. Then they arrived to find Christchurch in a heavy drizzle. This just shows how unsettled the weather can be at this time of the year. It explains the reason for so many colds that are going round.
