Banquet Arranged for Soldiers’ Club. SUPPORTERS OFFER.. (Special to the •* Star.”) ASHBURTON, April 5. It was reported at a meeting of the Ashburton Soldiers’ Club, Mr E. B. Newton presiding, that a supporter had generously offered to entertain members at a banquet which will be held on April 28. Messrs F. A. Hickman, R. Bain, 11. W. Smallbone, T. Jamieson and W. H. Amos were appointed a committee to make the necessary arrangements. Major-General Sir Andrew Russell wrote advising that as he would be in the district at the end of the month he would attend this gathering. It was decided to write to Mr F. Z. D. Ferriman expressing regret at his illness and the hope for a speedy recovery. Lodge Meetings. A meeting of Court Pride of Ashburton, Juvenile Lodge, was held last evening, the C. R. (Brother R. Melrose) presiding. One brother was reported on the sick list and sick pay amounting to £2 8s was passed for payment. A silver medal, donated by the District Court, was presented to P.C.R. Brother R. Tonks for introducing the most new members for 1933. After the close of lodge a party of boxers from Mr Terris’s training school entertained members with several sparring bouts. At the fortnightly meeting of the Hakatere Lodge. 1.0.0. F.. held last evening. Brother D. Hunter presided. Brother S. A. Moore, P.G., retiring D.D.G.M., presented Brother H. G. Preston, P.G., with the P.D.G.M’s commission. Brother H. C. Preston, P.G.D.D.G.M., assisted bv his officers, installed the following officers for the ensuing term: —Junior P.G., Brother W. Hunter; N.G., Brother T. Arnst; V G., Brother V. Petersen: recording secretary. Brother H. C. Preston; P.G.D.D.G.M.: financial secretary. Brother G. Fowke, P.G.; treasurer. Brother B. Osborne, P.G.; warden, Brother T. Thomson; conductor. Brother C. Cox; chaplain. Brother S. Fowke. P.G.; R.S.N.G., Brother B. Parsons, P.G.; L.S.N.G.. Brother C. G?rforth. P.G.: R.S.V.G.. Brother R. Hughes, P.G.: L.S.V.G., Brother D. Sparrow: R.S.S., Brother A. M’Lauehlan; L.S.S., Brother M. Digbv; 1.G., Brother G. Adams, PG.; 0.G., Brother A. Williams, P.G. Brother Hunter thanked his officers and brethren for the support that had been given him during his term of office. Brothers J Arnst and V. Petersen returned thanks for their election, and Brother Arnst also, congratulated Brother Preston, P.G'., D.P.G.M. and staff for the able way in which t.he installation ceremony was conducted. Members Entertained.
Mrs R. W. Barr entertained members of the Allen ton Croquet Club and friends on the club’s lawns yesterday to mark the termination of her term as captain. Competitions were won as follow: Golf croquet, Mrs E. S. Chambers; break contest. Mrs F. H. Hockings; hurrv scurry, Mrs A. Horsey and Miss A. M’Dowell. Opportunity was taken of the occasion to make a presentation to Mrs W. M’Laren, who has removed from the district. Junior Women’s Institute.
The junior group of the Women’s Institute met last evening, the president (Miss Collison) being in the chair. An interesting demonstration of making humpties was given by Mrs W. Bruce, who was accorded a vote of thanks. Miss I. Jaine showed the members how to improve their papier mache work, and the results of the papier mache competition were : Misses Lewitt and M. Willers (equal) 1, Miss M. Dunn 2.

Mrs S. J. Ball, Canvastown, Marlborough, and her daughter. Miss Jessie Ball, Nelson, who have been staying with Mr and Mrs M. Keeley. Ashburton, returned home on Tuesday.
