Japan’s New Challenge to Britain. WARNING FROM FAR EAST. United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received April 6, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, April 5. The “ Daily Mirror ” says that the British motor-car manufacturers have received warnings from their agents in the Far East that Japan is planning to flood Britain’s home and overseas markets with £SO baby motor-cars, of which the specifications have already reached London, revealing a striking resemblance to a British car. The “ Daily Mirror ” asks: “ How will Britain meet this new menace to her most flourishing industry?”

MOTOR-CAR PRICES UP. Mr Henry Ford Opposes Increase. MONTREAL, April 4. It is announced that the prices of automobiles have increased by from 30 to 300 dollars. Mr Henry Ford is the only exception. He says there would be no increase in price and, if other accessories go higher, he will undertake to manufacture his own. He says that higher wages are not necessarily the cause of higher costs. At the annual shareholders’ meeting on Monday, Mr Myron Taylor, chairman of the directorate of the United States Steel Corporation,• declared that definite signs of recovery were visible. Mr Taylor’s optimism was coincident with a rise of three dollars a ton in steel prices, which was immediately reflected in automobile prices.
