FINAL WOOL SALE.

Small Offering at End of Season. QUALITY ONLY FAIR. The fourth and final wool sale of the Christchurch season opened in the Caledonian Hall at 2 p.m. to-day. The offering was one of only 4262 bales, compared with 11.084 at the fourth Christchurch -sale last season. The smallness of the catalogue was due to the splendid clearances made at the three earlier sales. There was little held-over -wool for to-day, and the other lots were in the main late-shorn wool from the back-country. There was an almost entire absence of super wools. The following was the catalogue and order of sale:— Bales Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd 938 Dalgety and Co., Ltd 1262 National Mortgage 286 N.Z. Loan and Mercantile 311 H. Matson and Co 569 N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op. Assn 596 4262 There was a fairly representative bench of buyers, but some of the seats were vacant. The spectators’ gallery was not crowded. Over the early part of the sale bidding was brisk and well distributed. The Continent, and mainly France, took a good deal of the offering, principally pieces, while local mills bid keenly for the better class of fleece and for piece lots. Germany was in the bidding in many cases. The sale was a good firm one, with values from par to lid per lb higher than at the third Christchuich sale. Individual buyers had orders which were not yet filled, and that forced the competition, which was erratic as the demand for particular wools varied. Some fleece wools were up by up to 2d per lb, but the average rise was of about Id p#r lb.
