COIN AFTERNOON.
Funds for Home Service Association. PARTY AT MRS D. E. HANSEN’S. The big reception rooms of Mrs D. E. Hansen’s home in Opawq Road were again kindly lent by her to members of the Christchurch Home Service Association, who yesterdav held a coin afternoon to raise money for the work of the association. The rooms were gay with bowls of beautiful mixed flowers. Mrs Hansen, who gtected each new arrival, wore a closely patterned crepe-de-chine frock in black, white and lemon, while her daughter, Miss Mollie Hansen, was dressed in tomatocoloured crinkle crepe* Mrs J. Iv. Archer, president of the association, explained the work that was being done for unemployed girls. “ The numbers of those who need help have increased so tremendously,” she said, “ that we find ourselves becoming embarrassed financially.” In order to help put the association on a business footing, the committee had arranged a coin afternoon. The gifts of money brought by those present, together with a large number of donations sent by others who were unable to attend, amounted to between £8 and £9. Mrs A. E. Kincaid moved a vote of thanks to Mrs Hansen for placing her home at the disposal of the committee. The programme for the afternoon was arranged by Mrs H. L. Bowker, who herself contribtued songs, as did also Mesdames A. E. G. Lyttle and Stephen Parr. Miss Doris Webb amused the guests with her well-known musical monologues, and other interesting items were a one-act play and a play-reading given by Miss C. Menzies and Miss N. Grand. Miss Dorothy Gilkins opened the programme with a pianoforte solo, and she and Miss Webb also played accompaniments. , The officers of this helpful society who arranged the afternoon were: The president, Mrs J. K. Archer; vice-pre-sidents, Mrs D. E. Hansen and Misses R. Gilmour and M. A. Blackmore; treasurer, Mrs A. E. Kincaid; secretary, Mrs 11. C. Ilewland; committee, Mesdames H. L. Bowker, J. A. Tait, C. J. Treleaven, W. Machin, Cecil de Pass, A. R. Bloxam and C. Niven-I'orrest, Misses L. Pike, N. Cradock and Amy Bowker. Those present were: The Mayoress (Mrs D. G. Sullivan) and Mesdames J. C. Westall, Percy Revell, C. W. Winchester. P. C. Roberts, W. Brock, T. S. Young, Stephen Parr, C. 11. Opie, A. E. G. Lyttle, J. K. Archer, W. B. Denshire, C. Niven, Forrest, A. Egan, J. I. Smail, F. Wilding, sen., H. L. Bowker, W. Hayward. Coleridge Farr, W. Copeland, J. W. Hillary, J. C. Pairman, Trevor Hawkes, Misses E. Gilmour, M. A. Blackmore, E. E. Bevin, Doris Webb, G. Denshire. Hayward, Lake, Kincaid, C. Menzies and M. Wilkie. Others, who were unable to be present but who sent donations to the society’s funds, were: Lady Wigram, Mesdames C. West-Watson, R. W.
