Railway Picnic.

Dear Sir, —To hold the railway picnic on a Sunday and doing as “ Not Clannish " suggests would simply turn it into an excursion. As regards the ten-year railwayman working for his bed, watch him on a dark and dismal night hanging on by two fingers and a big toe between a wagon of squealing pigs and one bawling bobbie calves and other odours. He has a hand lamp in one hand, an eye full of cinders, water running down his sleeves and out the lace holes, a split second to get the hook, and if he misses—well, he*s sleeping out for good, while “Not Clannish" is sleeping in with a toe hold on the blankets and all the pillow.—l am, etc.. WALLA WALLA. This correspondence is now closed.—Ed., “ Star.”
