HORNBY-ISLINGTON.

Welfare Committee Holds Meeting. The annual meeting of the Islington Welfare Committee was held in the Islington Hall on Thursday evening. Mr J. Leslie presiding over a good attendance. The secretary submitted a balance-sheet disclosing a loss of £l4 2a lOd. A motion was passed changing the name of the committee to the "Social Hall Committee." Mr J. Leslie, tha chairman, tendered his resignation after carrying out the duties of this office for many years. The resignation was accepted with regret. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Chairman, Mr T. Downs; deputy-chairman, Mr Morgan Evans; secretary. Mr H. Wilson; committee, Messrs V. Parker. E. Pearce, T. Oldfield. A. Ward. M. M’Guinness, F. Ellis. D. Ransley and W. Richardson. At tha conclusion of the meeting the past and the new members were entertained to supper, when the opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr James Leslie. Flaakat Society. A meeting of the sub-branch of ths Plunket Society was held in the Orsngs Ilall, Hornby, on Friday afternoon. Members present were: Mesdamee Htiffadlne (president). J. Smalley. A. Head. J. Manson. S. Rowe. J. Gunderson. 3. G. Marsden and C. Woodham (secretary). The secretary submitted a balance-sheet In connection with the "Back to Childhood Dance." which disclosed h small profit. Mrs W. Huffadlne tendered her resignation from the office of president, st the meeting, the resignation being received with regret. Mrs J. Gundersen was elected to fill tha Hornby School Social. The popularity of the euchra tournaments conducted by the Hornby School Committee in the Islington Hall on alternate Saturday evenings was again in evidence on Saturday, when the card room was filled to capacity. Tha winners of the first prizes were Mrs R. Sloan and Mr R. Lodge and the second prizes werp won by Mrs A. Thompson snd Mr Lcckie.
