LEWIS PASS CAMP.
Men Resume Work on New Pay Schedule. A letter has been received from the men at the No. 2 Lewis Pass camp by Mr R. Macdonald, secretary to the Canterbury Unemployed Workers' Association. wh-ch, he says, puts a different complexion on the recent Public Works Department report. The men, stated the letter, had gone back to work in separate gangs after the department had agreed that December and January pav should be made at a flat rate of'los per week per man, and that this wage should remain fixed until two or three rocky cuts were completed. “ This agreement means a 100 per cent win for the men in their stand against the department,” Mr Macdonald said this morning. “ Some of the men were getting only 4s 3d previously. In its report, the department stated that the men had agreed to its terms, which, apparently, is incorrect.”
