Gatherings Held in Town and Country. SWIMMERS ENTERTAINED. In conclusion to a very successful day's swimming, the delegates to the New Zealand championships were entertained at a flannel dance in the Jellicoe Hall on Saturday evening. All the centres w’ere well represented, and the dance, which had been arranged by the local social committee, was a pronounced success. The Maisie Ottey-East orchestra played the dance music. Those who organised the gathering were Miss O. Brown and Messrs G. A. Parsons (convener). C. R. Riordan, G. R Laurie, G. S. Cooper and V. G. Spiller. Noticed among those present were:— Mr and Mrs T. An enjoyable party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs F. Pengelly, Belfast, on Friday evening to celebrate the coming-of-age of their son, Dick. During supper the usual toasts were honoured and the guest of the evening was presented with the customary key by his father. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs F. Pengelly, Mr and Mrs J. Price, Mr and Mrs A. Pengelly, Misses L. N. and E. Price and M. Ansley, Messrs J. Burns, G. Matheson. F. White, A. Price, R. Price, C. Pengelly and Edgar Pengelly. Kitchen Evening. Mrs U. Dudney, Riccarton, was hostess at a kitchen evening given at her home in honour of Miss Hilda Watts, who is to be married shortly. Games, dancing and singing * were enjoyed. Items were given by Messrs Popkins and Dudney, Mrs Dudney being accompanist. The guests Included: Mr and Mrs Watts, Mr and Mrs Popkins, Mr and Mrs Gracie, Mr and Mrs Jeffries, Mrs Brown; Misses H. Watts, V. Watts, M. C. Brien, J. C. Brlen, F. Brooks, S. Peoples, M. Dalrymple, E. Jones, A. Jackson, G. Drummond. X. Brown, C. Bayliss and M. Richardson: Messrs Richardson, A. Rogers, E. Rogers, T. Watts, R. Watts, A. Sollitt and W. Clark. Children’s Party. Mrs A. L. Gray entertained a number of children at her home, Crookston, Ifuriri Street, Riccarton, on Saturday afternoon. The party was arranged as a surprise to her daughter, Heather, wh6 celebrated her ninth birthday on Saturday. The birthday tea was set out on the lawn under the shelter of the spreading trees. The guest of honour cut a beautiful cake iced in palest blue and decorated with shell pink roses. Games and balloon scrambles were enjoyed. The little guests were Heather Gray, Betty Graham. Joan Stevens, Shirley Sladen, Lois Whitfield, Joyce and Ina Bowman, Fay Madden, June Atkinson, Pat Whittingdon, Enid Hurst, Jewel Sladen, Betty Atkinson, Pat Sladen, Margaret Gibb, Audrey Bruce, H.
