SERIOUS INJURIES.

Two Men Knocked Down by Molor-car. Serious injuries were suffered by a young man, Mr Harold Selwyn Carter, a farmer, of Templeton, when he was knocked down a motor-car on the Main South Road, Hornby, last evening. Both his legs were fractured and he suffered also severe abrasions on the body and shock. His condition, although serious last night, had greatly improved to-day. A companion, Mr T. K. Taylor, of Main South Road, Hornby, also suffered abrasions to the right side of his body and face. He went to his home after medical treatment. The men were walking together along the Main South Road shortly before nine o’clock when they were struck from the rear by a motor-car, driven by Mr B. F. Keene, 197, Yaldhurst. Road, Riccarton. Both were thrown heavily. The force of the collision was such that the radiator of the car was crumpled. Both men.were attended by Dr F. W. Ilelmore, Mr Carter then being taken to the Christchurch Hospital by the St John Ambulance. Fractured Thigh. A fracture of the thigh was suffered by Mr Alfred Priestly, 24, Bealey Avenue, when he fell from a hayrick at VVaikari on Saturday afternoon. Mr Priestly was on holiday at the farm of Mr Turner and was assisting with the stacking when the accident happened. He was attended by Dr Page, of Waikari, and was brought to the Christchurch Hospital by the St John Ambulance. His condition is described as satisfactory. Fall on Footpath. Scalp wounds were suffered bv Mrs Morris, who resides in Madras Street, when she slipped on the edge of the footpath at the intersection of Fitzgerald Avenue and Worcester Street shortly after six o’clock last evening. She was taken to the Christchurch Hospital, where it is reported that her condition is satisfactory. Sudden Death. The death occurred suddenly last evening of Mr Ernest Jones, aged sixty-six, of 116, Ensor’s Road, Opawa. Mr Jones was coming into the city on a tram when he collapsed. He was picked up by the St John Ambulance at the intersection of and Armagh Streets at 9.45 p.m. and was being taken to the Christchurch Hospital, when he died.
