FIRE IN TEAROOMS.
Second Outbreak at Rotorua in Twenty Hours. Per Press Association. ROTORUA, February 19. The second serious fire in Arawa Street within twenty hours occurred last evening, when the brigade was called out to suppress an outbreak in the Anza Tearooms, a few doors from the two shops which were gutted by fire the previous evening. The tearooms, which are situated upstairs, were blazing fiercely when the brigade arrived, but another good save was effected, and the outbreak was largely confined to the’ kitchen, where it apparently originated. Premises on the lower floor, occupied by Mr R. Miller, men’s outfitter, were badly damaged by water, which seeped through from the room above. The manager of the tearooms, Mr George Hatch, had locked up for the night scarcely half an hour before the blaze was noticed from the telephone exchange on the opposite side of the street. The insurances are not known, but both occupiers will probably be heavy losers.
