DAVIS CUP.
E. D. Andrews to Captain N.Z. Team. SELECTION ANNOUNCED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 17. The first team to represent New Zealand in the Davis Cup tennis competition for six years was announced by Mr A. G. Henderson, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Association, to-day as follows: E. D. Andrews (captain and manager). C. E. Malfroy. A. C. Stedman. Andrews is already on his way to England, and Stedman is there. Malfroy leaves on March 10. It is expected that the team will play in several preliminary tournaments, and arrangements are under way to allow them to compete in the French championships about the end of May. All three will be nominated for the Wimbledon meeting, and it is hoped that a fourth New Zealander will be found available for the team’s matches to be arranged in England. Two men of fair standard are available in Giesen and M. Young. Mr Henderson remarked: “We are in the most favourable draw that we could possibly expect. All the weaker nations are in the top half with us, arid, without being unduly optimistic, I think we may expect to reach the final of the European zone.”
