Notes From the Course. (Special to the *' Star.’’) AUCKLAND, February 17. In the Trjal Handicap, Kuini (£436) and Gala Day (£285) got most support. The second horse, Waskasu, carried £4l only. Stalky tangled at the start and lost a lot of ground. Autumn Lu also broke up. Kuini and Waskasu were on terms along the back from Mountain Sun, Manna’s Son, Bronte and Golden Eagle. The order into the straight was Kuini and Waskasu, with Mountain Sun, Autumn Lu and Manna’s Son on terms next, followed by Golden Eagle and Bronte. In the run home, Kuini drew out to win by two lengths from Waskasu. with Manna’s Son a neck away and Mountain Sun a head further back fourth. Golden Eagle. Autumn Eagle, Indolent and Young Rodney were next. Good Dividend. In the Waiheke Handicap Ringtrue (£508) and Anita Fame (£306) were best backed, while the winner, King’s Warrior, who was tenth favourite, carried £lO4 and paid double figures. Anthony’s Gift turned round at the start and lost a lot of ground, and Ringtrue, who was side on, Star Pronto, Tryment and Our Fancy, also failed to begin. Along the back the first three were Derby Fame, King’s Warrior and Lucky Love, with Kia Kaha, Anita Fam’e, Nelson Luvan, Gold Dredge and Home Brew following. Derby Fame, King’s Warrior and Kia Kaha were the leaders into the straight, with Lucky Love and Anita Fame handy. Then came Nelson Luvan and Student Prince. King’s Warrior finished very fast over the last furlong and beat Derby Fame by a length and a half, with Anita Fame a similar distance away. Gold Dredge was fourth, followed by Lucky Love, Kia Kaha, Home Brew. Jester, Student Prince and Arion Axworthy. Wrecker Well Driven. In the Otahuhu ILandicap, Wrecker (£628), Raydus (£393) and Homeward (£297), were the most fancied, and the public were right on the mark. Along the back Glandore, the early leader, was still in front of Homeward, with Te Wahia, Wrecker, Dan Direct, Silver Bingen and Kewpie’s Triumph next, followed by Ngingongingo and Raydus. Homeward ran into the lead crossing the top, and led into the straight from Wrecker, Glandore, Te Wahia, Silver Bingen, Dan Direct and Kewpie’s Triumph. Well driven. Wrecker took charge in the run home to win by half a length from Homeward, who beat Glandore by a length. Silver Bingen, Kewpie’s Triumph, Te Wahia, Raydus, Ngingongingo and Dan Direct were next. Defeat of Favourite. In the Papakura Handicap Cimarron (£708), Admiral Wrack (£600) and Free Logan (£402) were the favourite selections. Free Logan ran very wide at the turn out of the straight, and had to be eased up, but got going again after losing ground. Passing the stand the next time, Rock Hinton had charge from Willie Derby, Herod, Admiral Wrack and Cimarron. Then came Realty, Pukemiro and Free Logan. Willie Derby headed Rock llintcn along the back, with Cimarron handy. Then came Free Logan, Admiral Wrack and Pukemiro. Crossing the top Willie Derby was going nicely in the lead from Cimarron and Free Logan on terms. Pukemiro, Rock Hinton, Admiral Wrack and Realty were following, and the field turned for home in the same order. Willie Derby held his own in the run to the post and won by a length and a half from Cimarron, who beat Pukemiro by two lengths and a half. Free Logan was fourth, followed by Realty, Rock Hinton, Herod, Admiral Wrack and Gumdigger. Whakahihi Pays Good Price. In the Mount Albert Handicap, Wor-. thy Chief (£675) and Our Summer (£472) carried most money. The winner, Whakahihi, was entrusted with

£179 only, and paid a good price. Our Summer was slow to begin, and Wee Parrish stood on the mark, losing a lot of ground. Along the back Worthy Chief was attended by Phyllis Axworthy and Indian Author. The trio were showing the way to Lady Amanda and Whakahihi. Phyllis Axworthy and Worthy Chief were on terms crossing the top from Whakahihi, Indian Author, Lady Amanda, and the order was much the same into the straight, where Phyllis Axworthy drew out in front. Whakahihi, however, wore her down in the run to the post and beat her by a length, with Worthy Chief two lengths and a half away third. Donum was fourth, and then came Our Summer, Indian Author and Lady Amanda. Worthy Light’s Narrow Win. In the Railway Handicap, Bingen Chief (£635) and Worthy Light (£617) carried the bulk of the money. Bingen Chief was slow to move at the start. Passing the stand Worthy Light had charge from Bingen Chief and Manco, who were on terms, with Francis Lincoln and Jackie Thorpe together next. There was no alteration along the ! back. Worthy Light was first into the 1 straight, with Manco, Bingen Chief, Jackie Thorpe and Francis Lincoln all close up. In a tight finish Worthy Light got the verdict by a neck from Bingen Chief, with Francis Lincoln a head away third. Manco and Jackie Thorpe were right up behind the placed horses.
