AID FOR DISTRESS FUND.
Progress League Acts on Own Initiative. The Canterbury Progress League has, on its own initiative, taken up the matter of raising money to supplement the Mayor’s Relief of Distress Fund, according to a statement made by the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) today. He said that he was pleased to announce that the league had kindly consented to assist. Two conferences were held between the Mayor and representatives of the league, and when the league commenced its efforts it would seek the co-operation of other organisations and private citizens.
