There has been discovered a new Atlantic Ocean depth of 44,000 feet—nearly nine miles. The hole in the ocean floor is near Nares Deep, about 75 miles north of Puerto Rico. Nautical charts show’ probably the deepest spot hitherto known in the Atlantic as 27,972 feet, in the same area.
