BOWLING.
St Albans Pairs Win on West Coast. PLAY AT RUNANGA. (Special to the “ Star.") GREYMOUTH, February 16. The weather was perfect for the concluding: day of the West Coast Bowling Centre’s tourney on the Runanga green. There was a large attendance to witness the finals of the pairs and rinks. Excellent bowling was seen, especially in the pairs final, which Was contested by two Canterbury sides, the veteran, G. Horne (skip), and the colt, G. Paul, of St Albans, prevailing in a brilliant exhibition from W. Flagger and P. Munn, of the Canterbury Club. The rinks was won by Runanga after a good final with the Gleymouth rink. The green was in good order, although a trifle heavy owing to rain yesterdav. A noteworthy fact was that George Horne (lead) and G. Queree (skip) won the West Coast pairs championship in 1024. Results:— RINKS. Semi-final—T. Bowes. L. Pattinson, J. Umvin, N. Leach (s.) (Runanga), 23, beat S. Cooper. A. Benjamin, W. Wilson, J. Breeze (s.) (Hokitika), 14; W. Scott. F. Davies, D. Stevenson, L. Mercer (s ) (Grevmouth), 23, heat R. Fleming, R. Collett, C. J. King, D. Stevenson (s.) (Hokitika), 9. Final—Leach 23 beat Mercer 16. The standard of play in the final was not comparable with that of the pairs final, which was played at the same time. Mercer was in form, his driving being particularly accurate, and gaining applause, but the rest of the rink let him down by bad playing. After the fourteenth head he never looked like beating Leach, although at times he killed good scores by his opivment. With the list few bowls, Leach’s team as a whole played better bowls, fully deserving their popular victory. Until half-way through the game the scores remained even, but then Leach gradually forged ahead, until at the eighteenth Mercer’s position was practically hopeless. PAIRS. Semi-final—W. Hagger and P. Munn (Canterbury), 15, beat F. Davies and L. Mercer (Greymouth), 13; G. Paul and G. Horne (St Albans), 17, beat F. Cooper and J. Breeze (Hokitika). 15. Final—Horne 26 beat Munn 13. New Brighton Club. The following are the results to date of the handicap singles of the New Brighton Bowling Club:—Taylor (5) beat Robins (4); Besley (scr) beat Taylor (5); L. Lawrence (2) beat Christian (8); Holloway (1) beat Henry (6); Bisman (scr) beat Minson (scr) ; M’Cree (1) beat Dean (4). The draw for the Williams Shield Is as follows:—Besley plays J.
