Export of Fruit .

Government Guarantees Prices. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 15. “'J'HE GOVERNMENT has decided to give a guarantee on apples and pears exported to overseas markets during the current season,” said the Hon C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, to-night. The Government guarantees the grower' a gross market price in New Zealand currency of 9s lid per case for extra fancy and fancy grades, and 9s 5d for good grade in respect of those varieties of apples and pears set forth in the first schedule of table No. 1 of the Export Regulations. In respect of those varieties included in the second schedule the grower is guaranteed 9s 5d for extra fancy and fancy grades and 8s lid for good grade fruit shipped or loaded for direct shipment from any port in New Zealand by or on behalf of the grower on or before May 25, 1934, in accordance with the provisions set out in “ Conditions of Government Guarantee.” Advices from London indicate that there is a possibility of an improvement in the market, which, if confirmed, will result in better prices being obtained.
