SUMNER NOTES.
The first meeting of the Sumner branch of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union was held in the schoolroom. Mrs Shaw presiding- over a good attendance. It as again arranged that jam jars should be collected this year and filled with jam by the ladies for the April meeting. Miss Killner and Miss Gates asked to be relieved from their duties for a time, as they would be away from Sumner. It was decided that Mrs Johnston should be treasurer, and Mrs Shaw. M.M.B.U. mam secretary during their absence. Several visitors were present, including Miss Boyd, of the OxTord Terrace Church. Arrangements were made to hold the next meeting in the form of a social on March S. in order to farewell Miss Gates and Miss Killner. The collection amounted to 16s 9d. The afternoon tea was provided by Mesdamos A. Topping and Hampton. L&wn Tennis. The lady members of the Sumner Tennis Club held a Yankee tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The winners vv§re Mrs R. Gale and Mrs Thomas. Mrs N. H. Barlow and Miss Creed were the runners-up. Those present were:—Mesdames Penwell, H. A. Ford, Uipscomb, Wallace, R. H. X. Hill. Brooks, Dawe. U. F. Regnault and Webb. Misses C. Andrews. Hampton, Hudson and Thomas.
