Position at Wellington Wool Sale. FAIR CLEARANCE REPORTED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 15. Wellington’s third wool sale of the 1933-34 season, held to-day, was chiefly remarkable for the contrast it presented to that of last month, which, in all probability, will stand as the record auction of the season for the whole Dominion. Prices to-day were more or less back to the level of those ruling in December at Wellington. In some cases they were slightly higher, and in coarser grades a shade lower. Compared with the lightning-like rapidity of last month’s sale, when practically a 100 per cent clearance Was made at prices that seemed to know no limit, to-day’s auction dragged heavily. At times, however, there were a few purple patches, when bidding was exceedingly vigorous and sales were made at a fast rate. Passings at times were fairly heavy, due to growers’ unduly high valuations, but probably about 80 per cent of the total offering of 30,500 bales were sold. Compared with the last sale in the South Island, prices showed very little difference, except for coarse and shabby sorts, which were id cheaper. A leading broker calculated that, compared with January prices in Wellington, half-breds to-day were 2Jd lower, cross-breds down lid to 3d, lambs 2d lower, Southdown 2d to 3d down, bellies, pieces and locks Id to 2d down. Bradford and the Continent were the chief operators, the latter being very active buyers of half-breds, lambs and pieces. Range of Prides. Following is the range of prices, together with that of the secon-d sale:
