Civic to Show “ After the Ball.” “ Rookery Nook ” definitely finishes its season at the Civic Theatre tonight. “After the Ball,” which is due at the Civic Theatre to-morrow, is an ideal example of British humour. Sparkling with delightful comedy, spectacularly staged and acted by a particularly wellbalanced cast, it is credited with being the best production released from the Gainsborough Studios. Esther Ralston heads the cast. Basil Rathbone, in the role of an amorous courier, is superb, with much witty dialogue and humorous incident to help him. Then there is Marie Burke, well remembered in New Zealand as the star in “ Wildflower.” With the League of Nations Conference at Geneva as a background. After the Ball” has an excellent storv that bubbles with fun. Peter Strange, an overworked attache, is anxiously awaiting the.arrival of Jack Harrowbv, who carries important dispatches. Jack is o\ erdue. Actually he is engaged in a flirtation—hence the complications. Two musical numbers are featured “A Night a Dance, a Tune,” and “In Santa Lucia. • n ,? xcellen t supporting programme, including a film of the recent celebrations at Waitangi, completes a programme of outstanding excellence.
