TWO GOOD PICTURES.
“ The Crooked Circle ” and “ Disgraced!” “ Baroud ” and “ The Mayor of Hell ’’ will be shown finally to-night at the Liberty Theatre. Two good pictures—“ The Crooked Circle.” a mystery-comedy, and “ Disgraced ! ’ a drama—will comprise the new double bill at the Liberty Theatre to-morrow. For sheer ludicrous good fun it would be difficult to surpass “ The Crooked Circle.” It is a thoroughly entertaining semi-comic melodrama after the traditional Hollywood manner. With Zasu Pitts, more woebegone than ever, as a timid housekeeper in an old dark house, complete with mysterious sliding panels, a grandfather clock which strikes thirteen, and a skeleton in the attic, the success of the film is assured at the outset.. But it does depend upon her alone, brilliant comedienne though she is; some delightful flashes of comedy come from James Gleason, a particularly obtuse policeman, and splendid performances are given by the rest of the notable cast. From first to last the picture is a succession r*f uproariously funny episodes, which are heightened by the breathless suspense which invariably precedes them. Helen Twelvetrees, Bruce Cabot, Adrienne Ames, William Harrigan and Ken Murray play the leading roles in “ Disgraced !”, Paramount’s poignant story of a woman who found out she was too modern. Helen Twelvetrees plays the role of an attractive model and Cabot, climbing another step on the ladder to stardom, takes the other leading role, that of a wealthy young man-about-town.
