SOCIALISTS SEEK LEAGUE INTERVENTION. Incidents in Austria. MAT LEAD TO INTERNATIONAL COMPLICATIONS. I'cited Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received February 16. 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 15. The Brussels correspondent of “ The Times” reports that M. Emil Yandervelde, president of the Socialist Internationale, has telegraphed the League of Nations Secretariat, declaring that events in Austria constitute a threat to peace, and may lead to grave international complications. The League’s immediate intervention is called for.
M. Emil Vandervelde, the Belgian statesman and scientist, succeeded Mr Ramsay MacDonald as president of ths Socialist Internationale, and has retained this position, He has held several portfolios in Belgian Cabinets, and at one time was responsible for Mussolini’s withdrawing the Italian Ambassa-
dor from Belgium, as a protest against the remarks made by M. Vandervelde at the unveiling of a monument to Signor Matteotti, who was, he alleged, murdered by the Fascists.
