RUGBY FOOTBALL.
New Brighton Players Form Club. A well-attended public meeting was held in the Memorial Hall, North Beach, last evening to discuss the possibilities of reviving Rugby . Union football in New Brighton. Mr E. A. M. Leaver (Mayor of New Brighton) presided, while with him were associated Messrs A. E. M'Phail (president of the Canterbury Rugby Lnion), L. Hardie (Canterbury Rugby Referee* Association). A. Henry (convener) and S. S. Freeborn (secretary of the North Beach School Committed). Mr Lortus Hardy moved and Mr R. Parker seconded that a Rugby football club be formed in New Brighton. This was carried unanimously. Mr R. Parker moved that the club be called the New Brighton Rugby Football Club. This was seconded by Mr J. Clark and carried. The question of colours was left in the hands or the actual members of the club. Th*> election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.; vice-patron, the Mavor of New Brighton; president, Mr TV. Drake; vice-presidents, Messrs J. B. Jamieson. J. Clark, W. L. A. Taylor, R. S Pearson. R. Parker, R. L. M'Cormack, A. H. Olivers. A. W. Owles. F. J. Lawrence Scott. E. F. Hines and W. S. Bussell; honorary secretary. Mr S. S. Freeborn: assistant secretary, Mr K. Cooper; honorary treasurer. Mr R. M’Gillivray: honorary auditor, Mr J. F. Fames; club captain held over till membership of club is known. The meeting recommended that when *ho club function the following persons be elected to the committee:—Messrs V. Colville, L. Hardie, A. Henry and E. Diehl. Mr R. Parker made an offer on behalf of the North Beach Women’s Social Committee to give a social in aid of the new club's funds. Twenty-five boys, present signified their intention of playing for the club.
