Committees Report Many Improvements. VACANCIES FOR STUDENTS. The first meeting of the Cliristehur.il Free Kindergarten Assofiat ion in "theNew Year took place on February 14 in the Y.W.C.A. rooms. Mrs 'marker was in the chair and members present were: Mesdames K. Madfield Maekie, Powell, Grieg-, Retallick. M’Causland, Hitchcock. Suckling. Hester, Aitken, Rod da. Williamson, Hamlin, Robinson, and the The kindergartens re-opened on February 6. Miss H. Hull, principal, reported 1 hat, despite unfavourable weather conditions attendances had been good. One hundred new names bad been placed on the roll in the week. One hundred and forty had left to attend the primary school’S. Miss Hull stated that she had made a visit of inspection to each school and found them all in good order. Sydenham had been thoroughly renovated during the holiday_<-period. The newlyappointed teachers, Misses Joseph, M'Laughlin. Twose and Tanner, had been placed at Sydenham, Selwyn. Phillips town and Kinwood Kindergartens. Miss Nancy St John had generously returned to the kindergarten as a voluntary helper, and was at present at Sunbeam. Three new students had been accepted—Misses Thompson, Bowling and Morton. There were still vacancies for one or two students. School reports stated that the children had returned looking very well and happy, to find many pleasant surprises provided for them in the form of fresh equipment. Local committees and parents’ committees had been busy during the holidays putting playgrounds in order. New Brighton reported that during December the rooms used for a kindergarten had been let. It was necessary to find fresh quarters. In the meantime the school was being held, in the Pier Hall. The committee’s sincere thanks were due to Mr J. Shaw for lending his shop and dwelling free of charge. Parents’ voluntary subscriptions received were: Sunbeam £1 7s 6d, Phillipstown 15s 7d, Sydenham 18s, Selwyn £1 12s lid. Richmond 14s 7d. Linwood 12s 6d and New Brighton 12s sd.
